Mentor / Judge Intern

Reporting to Karl Büttner, the Chief Mentorship Officer of MassChallenge, the Mentor & Judge intern will work very closely with Karl in supporting the hundreds of Mentors and Judges who are volunteering their time to support MassChallenge. Key responsibilities include:

  • Tracking:  Using MassChallenge databases, spreadsheets and other tools as required, you will need to keep track of the many Judges and Mentors applying and recruited into the program, as well as commitments made to Mentors, Judges, and Finalist Teams.  You will “shadow” Karl in many of his meetings, taking down – and then tracking – the many commitments that he makes.
  • Communicating:  You will communicate and follow-up with the hundreds of rockstar mentors and judges that make MassChallenge function. These are busy, successful, very senior people, so excellent, professional communication skills are a must.
  • Connecting:  Once the teams are in here for the Accelerator phase (starting in late June) much of you time will be spent “connecting” teams with Mentors.  You will still need to keep track of all “promises made” to be sure that commitments and expectations are met.
  • Commitment:  Ideally you would be able to commit 30 hours per week starting immediately.  20 hours per week would be an absolute minimum, though 30 is definitely preferred.  Ideally you would commit to this role from now though the end of the summer (although we could split this between one person for April / May, and one person for May – August.)

Who You Are

  • Ultra Detail-Oriented:  Nothing can fall through the cracks, so you’d need to be someone who thrives on detail.
  • Well Versed With Technology:  Being well versed with the technology we employ would be a plus. We use: Macs, PCs, Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, Constant Contact, Dropbox, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Grasshopper, Google Apps (Mail, Calendar, Documents, etc.), Liquid Space, Salesforce, PayPal, Survey Monkey, Eventbrite and custom web applications and databases.   You must be comfortable with technology.
  • Thrive on This Opportunity:  You are someone who will thrive on being at the center of this entrepreneurial universe. You are someone who wants to play a key role in the amazing organization that is MassChallenge. You are someone who is super excited about the mission of MassChallenge to “Help entrepreneurs win. “
  • Clear Expectations of Working in a Startup:  We too are a startup, with this being only our third year. You need to be someone who has a clear understanding of what working in a startup means: little structure; flat organization; on-the-job-learning (mentorship by doing); shifting priorities; and very few resources. In other words, you need to be resourceful and at cause.
