Off Grid Box is a modular and compact unit that provides renewable energy and treated water in remote areas. We saw that one unit, managed by a local women co-op in a Rwandese village, impacts 1500 people providing Tier 1 electricity and sterilized water with a 20c$/d per family on a Pay-As-You-Go basis (half the current rate).
In less than 2 years, we sold 28 units in 8 Countries to individuals and NGOs.
Add-ons are desalination, wind, and connectivity.

2015 UK Diamond Winner

Renovagen have developed the "Roll-Array" transportable solar power system. It's a solar farm which unrolls from a container or trailer in a few minutes - to power mobile hospitals, desalination plants, mine sites, military bases and more. Batteries and inverters are built-in for 24/7 power - it can be used just like a genset. Our air-pallet container can be flown anywhere in the world on normal aircraft and packs up to 18kW of PV - 10x more power and much faster setup than existing solutions.

2014 Boston Diamond Winner

200 million people across India and Bangladesh suffer from arsenic and fluoride poisoning due to contaminated drinking water. Drinkwell transforms this $2.3B market into economic opportunity by blending novel water filtration with a franchise business model to provide 20L jugs of water daily to customers for a low monthly fee. Compared to reverse osmosis, the current best practice, Drinkwell delivers 60x more water, is 16x more energy efficient, and reduces waste by 7 orders of magnitude.

Gold Winners
2017 Switzerland Gold Winner

Novel membranes (PCT, USA patent) for separating hydrogen and oxygen during hydrogen production in alkaline water electrolysers have been developed by a start-up company MEMBRASENZ GmbH. Taking into account the relevance of hydrogen as a future energy career in providing green energy supply for industrial and domestic use and mobility applications, this technology possesses the potential to contribute solving some of the future energy challenges.

Sidecar Winners
2013 Boston Sidecar Winner

EnerLeap is a patented, new lithium ion battery technology. In today's lithium ion batteries, the powder binders break down quickly, stunt performance and jeopardize safety. EnerLeap replaces these inefficient binders with a rigid 2D titanium silicide nanonet. The result is a lighter weight, faster charging, longer lasting and safer battery. We have lab scale prototypes and are currently planning to enter the $12B global lithium ion market through the consumer electronic space.

Silver Winners
2016 Boston Silver Winner

The primary limiting factor of an electric vehicle’s performance is the power and energy capabilities of its energy storage by directly affecting its range, cost, power, and lifetime. Electra’s hybrid energy storage module is a product of electrical engineering combined with chemistry: our system marries the high energy density of safe battery chemistries with the high power density storage creating an efficient hybrid solution optimized for a vehicle’s performance and application.

2016 Boston Silver Winner

Battery Resourcers is committed to changing the dynamics for processing end of life lithium ion batteries. Currently most lithium ion batteries are landfilled. If they are recycled only the metal value is recovered. Battery Resourcers proprietary process allows one to directly synthesize new cathode materials from spent lithium ion cells. The Battery Resourcers recycling process will be able to deliver low cost cathode materials to the lithium ion battery market enabling green technologies.
