Driving Innovation Toward More Equitable Healthcare Solutions 

MassChallenge, the global network for innovators, is proud to highlight the five visionary startups selected for the 2025 Health Equity Business Accelerator (HEBA), a collaborative program with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA).

Now in its fourth year, the Health Equity Business Accelerator is a vital initiative supporting early-stage startups tackling some of healthcare’s most persistent disparities. This year, the program provided each startup with a $50,000 non-dilutive grant, a robust curriculum tailored to health equity challenges, and access to mentorship from MassChallenge experts and BCBSMA leadership. 

Throughout the three-month accelerator, startups engaged in intensive programming, curated mentorship, and direct collaboration with healthcare leaders to refine their models and expand the impact of their solutions. The program culminated in a dynamic live showcase at MassChallenge’s headquarters in Boston on May 21, 2025, where the startups pitched to a packed audience of investors, healthcare experts, and community leaders. 

Meet the 2025 Health Equity Business Accelerator Cohort: 

• Culture Care Collective: A care coordination solution using community health workers to bridge clinical care and social support services for clinics, universities, and community organizations.

• Ito Health: A HIPAA-compliant platform helping health systems identify and address patients’ social risk factors, improving outcomes and lowering costs.

• Tinted Health: A digital health platform connecting underserved patients with culturally literate providers to reduce misdiagnosis and improve care equity.

• Trans Health HQ: An education and credentialing platform empowering clinicians to provide gender-affirming care, reducing preventable harm in the trans community.

• Rosette Health: An AI-driven solution breaking down language barriers for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients, enabling more inclusive and accurate care.

Highlights from the Showcase Event: 

The HEBA showcase featured powerful founder pitches, insights from healthcare industry leaders, including members of the BCBSMA Health Equity Council during a fireside chat, and vibrant networking among startups, investors, and stakeholders. The energy in the room underscored the urgency and momentum around health equity innovation.

A Long-Term Commitment to Health Equity 

Blue Cross has demonstrated national leadership in health equity, including: 

• Launching the nation’s first pay-for-equity financial model to incentivize providers to reduce racial and ethnic disparities. 

• Investing over $39M since 2021 in health equity initiatives, including partnerships with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and local nonprofits. 

• Publishing annual health equity data in collaboration with clinical partners.
