We believe that entrepreneurs are the value creators for society – addressing some of the world’s biggest challenges to make us healthier, safer, better educated, more efficient, and more connected. To ensure startups have every opportunity to create widespread impact, we partnered with BNY Mellon to offer $5,000 scholarships to top startups in the social impact space.
More from Daisey Holmes, President of the BNY Mellon Foundation: “as part of our support, this year we awarded five MassChallenge startups the BNY Mellon Scholarship for Social Impact based on the strength and viability of their models, proposed solutions and potential impact.”
In today’s post, we’ll be spotlighting two of these winners, which are actively developing solutions to improve food accessibility and affordability.
Food for All
Launched with a vision to make quality food accessible to all, Food for All created an app that allows users to buy unsold food from restaurants for at least a 50% discount. In the U.S., we waste $160 billion in food every year, meaning that 40% of total food production is wasted. It’s a huge problem, but it’s challenging to stop since food waste is generally accepted in our society.
The team understood that in order to curb food waste, they would need much more than a smart and innovative solution – they’d need a whole movement that supports their cause. With support from BNY Mellon, Food for All can continue. To mobilize support from restaurants, institutions, and users to make doing the right thing easy, fun, and affordable.

Acting as an end-to-end grocery service and online market, Natured works closely with local food makers to source high-quality food in every aisle of the grocery store so you can feel good about. More than just the taste. After shopping for seasonal produce, freshly baked bread, sustainably raised meat, pantry staples, and more, the groceries are delivered to your home with care.
With support from BNY Mellon, Natured is able to expand their reach and lean on expert guidance to help them succeed long after graduating from MassChallenge.
