Our Guiding Principles

These five guiding principles create the path for how we work and how we aspire to further the MassChallenge mission.

Community First

Our global community consists of stakeholders from all backgrounds and geographies that share similar interests and goals. It is our priority to provide a high level of customer service to create value, foster engagement, and drive long term success.

Own It

We are authentic in our work: we promote discussion, drive transparency, and trust our team to deliver on their commitments. As people, we also learn from (and admit to) failures, celebrate success, and take pride in delivering on the MassChallenge mission.

Love the Problem

We practice this classic entrepreneurial advice daily. By actively listening to our audience, we fall in love with the problem, not the solution. We don’t sacrifice long-term value for short-term results, and we keep our eyes and minds open to new solutions.

Build for Impact

We build for lasting impact by documenting process, sharing resources, and working to make future projects easier. We focus on our foundation and mission to think big and bold to accelerate innovation across global ecosystems.

Connect & Collaborate

An emphasis to share ideas and best practices across programs, borders, and people’s identities. We highly value collaboration, teamwork, and prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion to always make space for one another.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Our goal at MassChallenge is to build DEI into the DNA of the innovation ecosystem. This means supporting a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive ecosystem and working environment through three pillars: foundationally by looking at our systems and core processes, internally by focusing on building an inclusive culture to attract and retaining strong employees, and externally to make our programs more accessible and to build capacity to ensure the broader community can support our goals. You can read more about this here.

At MassChallenge, our Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (I.D.E.A.) working group consists of team members from all corners of the business and focuses on executing initiatives tied to our three pillars. The I.D.E.A. group also holds MassChallenge accountable and ensures the organization’s actions reflect our values and mission.

There is a spot for every MassChallenge team member in the I.D.E.A. working group. Whether you join the group or not, all MassChallenge employees are expected to continue to grow and learn while on their personal DEI journeys, attend regular trainings, and work and act in a way that supports the mission and goals of our organization. As a company, we have DEI-related goals across all areas of the business: community, startups, experts, partners, donors, alumni, and team. Through this work, the team at MassChallenge leads each other, our community, and the innovation ecosystem to be more inclusive.

We welcome applicants from all races, sexual orientations, genders, identities, and abilities who can enhance our culture and increase our diversity of thought. We recognize that skills are gained in many ways, whether it be through professional, academic, or lived experience. We also know that it’s not always easy to apply for a job if you’re not sure you check every box in the job description. There is no such thing as a ‘perfect’ candidate, so no matter your background and how you identify, we encourage you to apply for this job if it would make you excited to come into work.

See the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion section on our website for more information and updates on our DEI work at MC.
