The Regional Government of Biscay witnessed the stagnated growth and decline in economic resources within Spain and planned address it by focusing on innovation and diversification.

MassChallenge provided a consultative analysis of Biscay’s innovation economy using its proprietary framework. MassChallenge conducted a comprehensive analysis of the innovation ecosystem and uncovered what risks, opportunities, and assets were inherent in the Biscay region.

MassChallenge provided a comprehensive assessment and framework of recommendations for strengthening Biscay’s innovation ecosystem that is now the bedrock of how Biscay approaches their development model. This includes blueprints for networking events, office space procurement, connecting microfinance lenders with startups, shared workspace acquisition, and utilizing MassChallenge Boston as a launchpad for their startup education program.

Over 40 startups have also participated in the Bridge to MassChallenge Biscay regional startup competition since the start of our partnership, with 22 taking part in a Boston-based boot camp.
