BOSTON – MassChallenge, the most startup-friendly accelerator on the planet, tonight awarded $1 million in cash prizes to 16 of the highest-impact startups from the 2017 Boston accelerator, its most competitive program to date. In addition, CASIS & Boeing also allocated $500,000 to three startups from the cohort to fund research projects on the International Space Station.
Its never been more clear that ideaseven at the earliest stagehave the power to change the world, said Kiki Mills Johnston, Managing Director, MassChallenge Boston. With support from the community, these ideas have since grown into capable, profitable, and sustainable ventures. We are proud to award this years winners and to celebrate the impact of all our startups, which are disrupting industries and bettering the lives of individuals around the world.
The eighth-annual event brought together more than 1,700 corporates, policy makers, and innovation enthusiasts at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center to celebrate the most-promising solutions and the power of the statewide community in helping these companies thrive. Kicking off with a showcase of the 128-startup cohort and on-stage pitches from the Top 26, the event featured inspiring remarks from Governor Charlie Baker, Massachusetts Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo, Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, and keynote speaker Adam Neumann, Co-Founder and CEO of WeWork.
Over the course of the four-month program, startups have leveraged expert mentorship, tailored curriculum, corporate partnerships and industry resources to launch and grow their companies all at zero cost and for zero equity. In addition, entrepreneurs have also had the opportunity to build and refine physical products in the MADE@MassChallenge?R&D lab and to access collaborative workspace at the Newton Innovation Center.
When we founded MassChallenge in 2010, we set out to convene and mobilize a community to support early-stage entrepreneurs,” said John Harthorne, Founder and CEO of MassChallenge. “With the help of this amazing community in Boston, our startups are having a massive impact both at home and around the world.”
